Frequently Asked Question
What should I expect during my free 15 minutes consultation?
This brief phone call will be an opportunity for you to ask any questions you may have about the therapy process, my style and treatment methods, scheduling and payment, and most importantly, to discuss if therapy will be the right fit for you at this time.
You mentioned that you can provide a Superbill. What exactly is that?
A Superbill is an invoice created by healthcare providers and issued to patients. A Superbill essentially itemizes services that have been provided by a healthcare provider. As the patient you are able to submit this document to your insurance company for reimbursement.
Does submitting a Superbill guarantee that my insurance will reimburse me for my visit?
No, it does not. In order to determine what you will receive for reimbursement, it's important to talk with you insurance company and ask the following questions:
-
Is there a deductible that must be met before receiving out of network mental health services?
-
Once my deductible is met, what are the benefits for out of network mental health services?
-
Are there limits to my reimbursement? Is there a maximum amount per person or a limited amount of sessions?
-
Does my insurance plan cover tele-health services?
How often do I come to therapy sessions?
The frequency of therapy sessions is completely up to you. Naturally, at the beginning it helps to schedule weekly appointments so that a relationship can be built between the patient and the therapist, and goals can be established. This process needs to be something that is comfortable for you and fits the needs of your schedule. Appointments can take place on an every other week basis, every three weeks, or even monthly. Some patients may chose to start out with weekly appointments and then after experiencing some improvement, move their appointments to a less frequent check in.
How long do I attend therapy sessions?
During our first appointment we will establish some goals that you feel you would like to achieve through the therapy process. When you have reached a point where you feel that you have successfully completed these goals, we can begin a discussion about terminating services. With that said, this is your process and you are free to discontinue services at any time. Some patients reach a point where they feel they would like to take a break and re-vist their work at another point in their lives. Remember, this is your process, and I am simply here to make recommendations and to guide you.
What should I expect during the first session?
The first session is typically spent gathering information and answering any additional questions the patient may have about the therapy process. Many of the intake forms can be sent to you electronically through a secure portal prior to our first appointment, however there is still a fair amount of information to be gathered during the first appointment. For this reason you should plan an hour and a half for the initial session.
